Post Google Business Page Claiming

February 17, 2015

Google puts heavy stock into providing their users with accurate, complete, reputable, relevant and most importantly, verified information on your business. One important step you can take to ensure your business is officially recognized by Google is to claim your FREE Google Plus (Google+) business page. Google now calls this Google My Business .

Already Claimed Your Page?

If you’ve already claimed or verified, make sure your address and phone number and store hours are correct and match the information exactly as it is shown on your website. Make sure you have populated your page with photos, videos, descriptions, key words and more. Take advantage of this FREE opportunity and fill out your page completely.

Claim your Page

First, make sure you have a Google+ Business page. Search for your business name on Google. Type: “business name, city, Google+ page” into the search bar. If you have a business page, it will show up in the results. Click on your page. If you see a little checkmark inside a little shield (see screen shot below), you are already certified. If the emblem does not appear, follow the steps below to claim your page. If your business does not have a page, follow the steps below to create a page.

Note: To add your local business to Google My Business, you must have a postal address. If you’d like to promote a brand, product, organization or any other entity without an address, you should instead  create a brand page .

Why Claim Your Page?

Claiming your company’s Google+ page will not directly impact how your business performs on Google searches, but it will optimize the information on your page and how your company appears in relevant search results. A claimed page contains more accurate maps, photos, up-to-date links to your business, website and a prominent review rating. These are all very important when you only have a few seconds to capture a visitor’s attention. If your target audience does not click through to your actual Google+ page, they will see all of your critical information right in the Google search result. This is even more important when the user is on a mobile device.

Unclaimed Page

If you have a page, but have not claimed it, Google makes it easy to do so. Just follow the steps on this Google web page .

No Google+ Page

You will need to work with Google to create a page for your address. Follow these easy steps .

New Business or Changed Location of your Business

If you now own a business in an existing location or recently purchased a business and want to claim ownership of an existing Google+ page or a Google+ page tied to your new address, you will need to transfer ownership of the page. In most cases, this is a simple process, but in the event you do not know the current owner, it will require a few extra steps so Google can verify the detail.    Google has a step by step process for this situation.

Once you’ve verified your business information, any updates or changes you make to your local business – such as contact details, description, photos, business hours – are eligible to show up on Google Maps and other Google properties (example below).
